School librarians are well-equipped to help classroom teachers address multiple parts of their essential standards in North Carolina. These crosswalks help show exactly how high school librarians can be a tremendous asset to teachers of every subject.
Methodology
I downloaded the Future Ready and ISTE AASL Crosswalks to use as the librarian base standards. Next, I downloaded the Essential Standards documents from the NCDPI website. I uploaded the AASL crosswalks and the essential standards, one subject at a time, into NotebookLM. I used the prompt below to create a list of the subject essential standards that seemed to be a good fit for the AASL crosswalks and what school librarians are trained to teach. I rewrote what NotebookLM created to verbiage that makes more sense to a wider range of stakeholders and then tailored each entry to indicate what school librarians are teaching and how our specialized skills can help students and teachers. .
"Please create a guide that shows how a school librarian can help (insert subject here) teachers address their essential standards. The two AASL crosswalks will be the standards that school librarians adhere to. The essential standards documents are the standards that (insert subject here) teachers adhere to. Comparing the two AASL crosswalk documents to the essential standards documents, create a list of standards in the essential standards documents that are addressed in the AASL crosswalk documents."
